Long Sutton Cricket Club appeals for support in funding bid to the One Family Foundation Community Awards for Mobile Cricket Nets
Long Sutton Cricket Club is a friendly local club offering excellent playing opportunities with two senior teams in the Somerset County Cricket League (Sat) and one in the Mid Wessex Cricket League (Sun). Youth cricket is provided from U10 upwards with Level 1 and Level 2 ECB qualified coaches available. The Club Pavilion and pitch is centrally located in the village adjacent to the Village Hall and next to the Primary School. The site is open access with many local residents and community groups also using its cricket pavilion, football and general sports field provision for local village community and sporting events.
Please support the club’s efforts by voting for the club to install a new mobile cricket cover to help protect against adverse weather conditions throughout the cricket season. Financial mutual OneFamily set up the Foundation to redistribute a proportion of its profits back to its customers, to help them to help their families, their communities and those they care about most. Through the Community Awards, OneFamily customers have the opportunity to nominate a community project to benefit from up to £5,000 or £25,000.

Jason Lyons, from the Sport England local office in Yeovil who nominated the Club said ‘This really is the one thing holding the club back and what would help to maintain the square and provide an improved playing surface and better consistency in match play. It should also help to sustain and increase membership levels with less games being lost or abandoned’
Chris Vigar the Cricket Club Chairman added ‘This is an excellent opportunity for the club to continue to progress and safeguard what it’s got. This season we had adouble promotion in both 1st and 2nd xi, and have 3 very successful youth sides but competition for funding is tight with 107 other projects nominated. Please take five minutes to give your support”.
The club need to show high levels of community support both within the immediate area and wider Somerset catchment if they are to stand any chance of success. This are 108 Community Projects in all up for award in this funding round, with the voting closing on the 30th November 2016. There is two other short listed Somerset projects in this round which are WAGS – Gardening for Children project and Wellington Cricket Club that have also made it to the voting stage.
